Born in İstanbul. Graduated from the Tarsus American College in Mersin in 1956. Received a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1961 from the Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara. He was introduced to the Scandinavian Architecture by his professors J.O.Spreckhelsen and Jakko Kaikkonen, and worked at the Ahti Korhonen-Eric Krakstorm Office in Helsinki/Finland in 1960; and at Halldor Gunlogsson-Jorn Nielsen Office in Copenhagen-Denmark in 1961-1965. Received his Master of Architecure Degree in 1964 from the Danish Royal Academy in Copenhagen where he attended design studios as the assistant of Professor Jorgen Bo. After returning back to Ankara in 1966, he taught at METU until 1975. Established his private office in 1968 and has been practising architecture as owner, partner and president of various partnerships and firms. Won the National Architectural Award of Turkish Architects twice; first in 1992 by the Bilkent Amphitheater Project, then in 1996 by the Bilkent University Library Annex. Served as the Chairman of the Association of Turkish Architects Consultants in Pivate Practice, between 1996-1998. Currently he is managing partner in Şahinbaş-Fikirlier Architects Consultants.

M.İzzet He graduated from the Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture with honours in 1983. Worked in the architectural office of O.Gürdoğan, S.A, Geneva Switzerland between 1982-83. Received his Master's degree from University College London, Bartlett School of Architecture "Advanced Architectural Studies" course in 1985. Worked in the architectural office of Sir Denys Lasdun Peter Softley Associates in London, betweeen 1985-87 while attending PhD courses in UCL. Between the years of 1987-89 he worked in collaboration with the METU Project Team, while serving as the general secretary and board member of the Şevki Vanlı Architecture Foundation. From 1989 onwards he practised as associate architect with Erkut Şahinbaş and became a partner in 1997. He is fluent in the use of CAD and IT Technologies, and as was recognised as such by the two CAD program firms. Currently he is a partner in Şahinbaş Fikirlier Architects Consultants and Managing Board member in the Association of Turkish Architects Consultants in Private Practice.
